“Autumn Window – Story About Facade Design” Seminar on An Autumn Day in Hanoi

On the morning of October 26, 2022, the seminar with a romantic theme “Autumn window – Story about Facade Design” organized by A79 Joint Stock Company took place at 33A Ba Trieu. This is a combination of expertise and “poetic” sophistication of architectural works, creating an atmosphere of positive interaction between speakers and participants. The program is to help A79 architects and technical engineers gain more practical understanding of contemporary architectural works, with the consultation of the two leading experts from the well-known design consulting firm specializing in designing large-scale international projects and hotels. In particular, the seminar had the participation of two experts as speakers: Mr. Steve Van Aelst and Mr. Tony Nguyen – co-founders of Van Aelst Company | Nguyen & Partners. Steve Van Aelst received his Master of Architecture in Antwerp – Belgium and has more than 15 years of experience designing international works. Mr. Ngo Trung Hai – Chairman of the Board of Directors of A79 JSC introduced the Belgian architect: “Steve has a way of breaking the story of Vietnamese architecture, molding it with the design knowledge of a Western-thinking architect”. Mr. Tony Nguyen is an engineer and project manager with more than 16 years of experience in many countries such as Switzerland, UK, Australia, Vietnam, China. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (UK) and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering. Van Aelst | Nguyen & Partners has designed and managed many large projects from Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, UAE… to European countries from concept to completion. On the Alphanam Group’s side, there was the participation of Mr. Bui Hoang Tuan – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alphanam E&C Joint Stock Company; Mr. Ngo Trung Hai – Chairman of the Board of Directors of A79 Joint Stock Company; Ms. Au Thien Huong – Director of Supply Division; Mr. Mathew Ho Tran – Permanent Deputy General Director in charge of Design of A79 JSC; Mr. Giang Nguyen Hong Van and Mr. Vu Anh Tuan – Deputy Director of A79 JSC; and other managers and employees from A79 Joint Stock Company. Façades Building is one of the largest, most important components of a building’s overall performance and aesthetic. Façade Engineers are a combination of art and technical engineering to solve aesthetic, environmental and structural issues to achieve effective building shading. The aspects such as the design, certification, fabrication and installation of a building’s facade need calculation to ensure material performance, aesthetics, structure, durability, safety and capabilities operation, security and maintainability. The expertises is required to cover issues such as computational fluid dynamics, 2 and 3 dimensional building heat transfer, behavior of materials, manufacturing methods, structural and transportation engineering. As a result, façade design has become an art and science with very high applicability today. At the opening remark, Mr. Ngo Trung Hai shared: “Each building has its own facade and at least one window. Autumn window is considered as an interface for the façade designer to create the eyes and soul to look out into space – to be able to tell the stories of autumn.” Explaining the inspiration named “Window”, he continued: “Window harmonizes between the people inside and outside a building to speak out so that people outside can understand the meaning of the building owner”. That’s the reason why A79 JSC chose the name “Autumn Window” for a highly specialized seminar. Mr. Steve Van Aelst and Mr. Tony Nguyen presented about Van Aelst’s projects | Nguyen & Partners in Vietnam such as Twin Towers in Bac Ninh; Manor Tower in Lao Cai; Hanoi Gallery, Hanoi Eco School, City Garden Phase II, Viettel Head Quarters in Hanoi; WINK Hotel in Da Nang; WINK Saigon Center, Sunset Towers, Sunrise Towers, D2 Show Gallery in Ho Chi Minh City; DIC Star Complex in Vung Tau,…, in which some hotels are newly completed. The two architects passionately talked about the idea, the implementation process and showed the overview images of the projects. A professional topic sounds dry about “facade design”, but thanks to the unique and “romanticized” expression from the members of A79 JSC – the seminar was very successful and brought more value to attendees.
